Progressive Stamping

Stamping (also known as pressing) is a set of operations executed in sheet or strip metal (or other raw materials), in order to obtain a finished product in terms of shape and dimensions.

These operations are executed with tools, installed in presses.

Stamping is a process of cold manufacturing, in which sheet metal is placed over a matrix and suffers the pressure of a punch which leads it to conform to the geometrical shape of the matrix.

This can be done in a progressive framework, in which the sheet metal advances throughout the tool producing the finished part at the end of a series of operations. Most of the tools used in PFML’s stamping section are progressive tools for serial production.
